IMF: Updates live again

Posted by Bharat Suneja at 9:01 AM
This just came in from Scott Roberts - IMF updates are live again. The latest update is dated Jan 11, 2007, version 6.5.7891.0.

Given the questions in different forums since the updates were paused/stopped, and particularly between yesterday (when the updates were supposed to kick in) and today - are some users really hooked to IMF? Or is it the warm & fuzzy feeling of seeing IMF being updated that makes you feel more secure or protected, just like updated anti-virus signatures? :)

If IMF doesn't update automatically on your servers, you can always check whether new updates are available by going to Microsoft Update (as shown in above screenshot). Alternatively, you can use the script provided by Scott in the post titled Demystifying Exchange Server 2003 SP2 IMF Updates on the Exchange team blog. The script also comes in handy if you do not want to use the auto-update settings to download and install *all* high-priority updates from Microsoft Update - you can schedule the script to run every other week, and have it only download and install IMF updates.

Is it bad that I didn't even know they released regular updates? I am still running on the ORIGINAL v2 dat/dll. UGH, no wonder everyone is complaining. And here I thought MS just sucked at keeping a good DB of junk signatures.

Also, wouldn't a nice CHECK BOX for "Enable Updates" be better! :-\

Too bad the "Enable Updates" checkbox didn't show up in Exchange Server 2007 either - you can enable it using an Exchange shell command.
